So it's legitimately pouring hardcore at the moment and I have to leave in an hour and go to practice for the dance team...not the biggest fan of driving or walking in the rain. But, before I leave I wanted to talk a little bit about what's been going on over here as of late, in terms of music and all that fun stuff.
So, as you know, or anyone who reads my blog knows, I am a huge fan of Memphis: The Musical. If you didn't know that, now you do. Anyway, I made my return to The Shubert Alley this weekend with a dear friend of mine and we had an absolute fantasical (yes I know what I said) time! We student rushed and ended up sitting front row where, once again, I got to witness the magic that is Memphis. After the show we decided we'd take full advantage of the beautiful spring day and wait in the Shubert Alley by the stage door for some of the cast to come out and all that fun stuff. We got super lucky and got a chance to meet the fabulously talented Montego Glover and Bryan Fenkart.
Now, for those of you who read this, you know that the last time I saw Memphis I saw it with Bryan and was instantly drawn to his performance as well as his talent. You also know that I reviewed his album Imperfect Man from top to bottom. Well, Bryan read that review (shocked me beyond all belief) and loved it. So, once Bryan was finished signing autographs for his adoring fans I got a chance to chat with him for a little while and let me tell you from experience...sweetest guy I have ever met.
Anyway, Bryan and I got a chance to talk a bit about his upcoming second album Simple & Grey (yes, G-R-E-Y, so please, forget everything you know about spelling the word 'grey' and drop that damned A =]) and he told me that he's working with some STELLAR artists in the studio. He's got one of John Mayer's guitarists that worked on Room For Squares in the studio with him as well as one of Lenny Kravitz's bassists. Cool right?! He also told me that the album should be completed in July, and because it takes a while to work on all the PR and press for it, he's looking at a release date in the early fall! Get excited! If you loved Imperfect Man then you're going to fall head over heels for Simple & Grey!
If any of you are in the New York area, I strongly encourage you all to go see Memphis, because your money will not have been wasted and you will walk away with stars in your eyes and a song in your heart. Also, try and catch Bryan at one of his shows in the city, he frequents The National Underground, Joe's Pub & The Bitter End. All great places to have a few drinks and listen to some good music!
I'll leave you all with some pictures from last weekend! And don't forget, if you're not following me on twitter go find me at twitter.com/gabbymags because I've got much more witty and sometimes comedic remarks up my sleeve!
Until next time! =]
