Being an Italian at Christmas time means that the incredible amount of baking that happens in my house is through the roof; I'm talking insanity. We do everything from sugar cookies, to chocolate chips, and everything you can imagine.

Chocolate Oreo Truffles

With Halloween coming up, I know a lot of people are prone to baking the customary spooky cupcakes for your party-goers or your child's classroom party. I've always been a huge fan of baking, and love to do it as something to relax after a day that just completely stressed me out, or just to entertain if I have some friends coming over for dinner or even just coffee. As I've gotten older, I realized that there was so much more to baking that just cupcakes, and cake mixes that came out of the box. So, with that said I've started gathering recipes that are much more on the homemade front. This one happens to be my all time favorite, and they're SUPER easy to make! They're great bite size treats for all ages, and I'm warning you now, highly addictive! But worth it. I'm going to be making these for my best friends birthday, which happens to be on Mischief Night, and taking them with me to Atlantic City where we'll be celebrating. They're also really easy to pack up and travel with. Here's the recipe for the deadly Chocolate Oreo Truffles that I seem to continually plague my friends and family with!

Chocolate Oreo Truffles

Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. Oreos
  • 1 8oz. block cream cheese (Room Temperature)
  • 1 pkg. of chocolate chips (milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate…you choose, they’re all delish)

Directions:

1.      Crush Oreo’s in a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor put the cookies in a gallon size freezer bag and smash them until they look like crumbs.

2.      Combine crushed Oreo’s and cream cheese in a kitchen mixer and mix until the crumbs and cream cheese are completely blended together. It should be a thick batter.

3.      Roll the batter into one-inch balls and place on a cookie sheet that is covered in aluminum foil or wax paper.

4.      Chill the truffles in freezer until they are hard (ie: when you pick them up your fingers won’t easily be able to press into them.)

5.      Melt your desired chocolate and dip the balls in the chocolate, placing them back on the covered cookie sheet when finished. (If you choose, you can decorate your truffles with sprinkles, shaved coconut or chocolate, or a colored chocolate if they’re for an occasion or holiday.)

Chill completed truffles before eating so that chocolate shell is hardened. ENJOY!  post signature
